I’ve been a fan of the History Channel since I first got it a few years ago. I love watching grainy footage of events that happened long ago. And while it’s not the same as reading about it, I still feel like I have learned a great deal about historical events while at the same time being entertained.

Recently, it covered the U.S. Presidents. It was the best thing I have ever seen on that network! I was astonished at what I learned about these individuals who led our country, but who were just pictures in an encyclopedia with a few facts thrown in.

While I was disappointed to not find anything at The History Channel’s Web site that was directly covering the series (besides the DVD of it being for sale), I did find this page that lists many of the fascinating facts about these 43 men.

Today’s site is History Channel ALMANAC: Biographies of the Presidents.

We all remember the mess that was the 2000 election. Did you know a similar mess happened in 1825, with the winner suffering from a plagued presidency of intense opposition? In 1824, John Quincy Adams was elected president by the House of Representatives after he failed to win an Electoral College majority. The disgruntled loser of the election, Andrew Jackson, led opposition from the House and Senate that made his single term most ineffective.
