VoIP Smoke And Mirrors

It’s been almost two months since I ranted about my local cable company attempt to market its VoIP offering as “digital phone” service. It still hasn’t come clean. It’s almost as if it’s betting that its customers are stupid. Okay, so maybe stupid is a strong (or at least wrong) word to use. Maybe the company’s just betting that a certain percentage of its customers are merely ignorant of this brave new digital world…
Don’t get me wrong… VoIP isn’t smoke and mirrors. On the contrary, it’s very much for real. It’s our local cable company’s reliance upon smoke and mirrors marketing that’s set my blood to boil.
Perhaps the company thinks that if the letters VoIP are left out of the advertisements, its customers will be happy to pay in the neighborhood of $47 to $57 per month for a VoIP plan.
It’s laughable.
As I said back in October: Forty Seven Bucks Per Month Is Not A Bargain.
Take a quick look at my VoIP Plan Comparison Chart to see how the cable company’s “we can’t call it VoIP” offering is completely uncompetitive.
