All events that are written to the security log (as well as the other log files), will appear with an icon beside them. You can use the icon to determine the type of event that has occurred. Within the security log you’ll see two different icons. A successful event appears with an icon resembling a key beside it. An unsuccessful event, on the other hand, will appear with an icon resembling a lock beside it.
To view the contents of the security log on another computer, first open the Event Viewer on your computer. If you are running Windows NT 4.0, click Select Computer from the Log menu. You can then select or type in the name of the computer you want to view. If you are running Windows 2000 or later, select Connect to another computer from the Action menu. Type in the name of or browse for the computer you want to connect to.
