Check this out: a new service, called Flight Aware, is offering online airplane tracking! Now you can track airplane flights on the Internet, in near real time! And it’s free!

The new Flight Aware service provides airplane tracking of both commercial and private flights, and not only determines where they are, and whether they left on time or are due to arrive on time, but it even provides a map and data which shows the airplane’s location, altitude, and ground speed at any given time.

You can actually watch the plane’s progress along its flight path as it heads towards its destination. Too cool!

While the information is delayed, it’s only delayed by six minutes, so that’s pretty well close enough to real time for such a service. (Have I mentioned that it’s free?)
