Do Not Call Means Do Not Call, Got It?

I just don’t get it. I signed up for the Do Not Call List ages ago, in the hope that it would reduce the insane number of telemarketing calls we receive here at ranchero indebto. Fat chance. The tide of calls seemed to ebb for a while but now they’re back full force, and at all hours of the day, no less. What is it about Do Not Call that these misguided telemarketers fail to understand? Why can’t they point their technology somewhere else?
There are some days when I get half a dozen telemarketing calls before lunchtime, each one more annoying than the next. Oddly enough, very few of these calls come through on my business line. Almost all of the calls are on the house line. And wouldn’t you know it, I only have Caller ID on my business line.
Why the disparity? It’s simple … my business line runs on VOIP, while my house line is still POTS. (That’s Voice Over IP and Plain Old Telephone service for the acronym watchers). It seems that the telemarketers (and their snazzy predictive dialing technology) haven’t caught up with my business line, just yet.
That having been said, I dream of the day when the VOIP Providers wake up and start delivering high-end call screening for multiple line households.
Lets fight telephony technology with telephony technology, I say …

Simple solution, I’ve used it, hardly get any calls anymore:
As soon as you know it’s a telemarketer, interrupt them and in a firm voice say, “Please take this number off your calling list”. Get any acknowledgement and then hang up.
Life is too short to stress and/or put up with ‘em..

We’ve been on the “Do Not Call List” for a long time too, and it did seem to stop for a while, but It’s back. (Kinda like athlete’s foot.)
I tried the “Please take this number off your list”, and it seems they just sell the number to someone else.
Lately they seem to be calling from overseas, like maybe Asia somewhere.
I even tried “I’m sorry but she (my wife) has passed away, would you please take her off your list”, and even that didn’t work.
I told my wife to ask “may I ask who’s calling”, and when they tell you, write it down, thank them, and tell them we’re on the Do Not Call List and we will be filing a complaint, then hang up.
Maybe their job is worth more than calling us back.
