Word 2002 allows you to compare two different versions of the same document and merge them into a single one. So if a user edits a copy of a document and sends it back to you, you can compare the new version of the document with your own version to see what changes the user made to it. Or, if multiple users are making changes to a document, you can merge all the changes into a single document for review.
You can compare and merge two documents using the steps below:
- Within Word, click the Open button on the toolbar.
- Locate the copy of the file that contains the changes.
- From the Tools menu, click Compare and Merge Documents.
- Locate and select the file that you want to compare.
- Using the Merge down arrow, select Merge into current document. Any changes made to the document by another reviewer are highlighted a different color.
- Repeat steps 3 through 5 to add compare and merge additional copies of the document.
- Once you have accepted the changes (from the Reviewing toolbar, click the Accept change drop down arrow, and select Accept All Changes in Document), save the document.
