µTorrent Vs. Azureus For Torrents

µTorrent is:
- Fast as hell; blinding launch speed
- Intuitive, you don’t need to think about it
- Powerful; good for intermediates
- Lightweight (96k total)
- Built for a superfast fully-automated upgrade process
- Updated frequently - very frequently
- A single binary; no other files to manage
- The best Windows BitTorrent client around
- Now my default BitTorrent client
Azureus is:
- Java-based, very slow
- Resource intensive
- Bulky, clunky
- Overkill for regular BitTorrent users
- Customizable with plugins
- Cross-platform
- No longer my favorite BitTorrent client
There are a few things I’d like µTorrent to have (like filters, RSS scanning, etc.), but I’m sure those are coming. The developer seems to be unleashing fixes at breakneck speed - and I can’t stop gushing over how simple the update process is. First, the client tells you that it’s available. Then, it downloads the new version, shuts itself down, and automatically replaces the old version with the new. It takes less than five seconds on a broadband connection. Amazing. Simply amazing. Keep your eye on this one if you’re not ready to switch yet. The author was obviously inspired by Azureus, but made his BitTorrent client better.

Perhaps you should look at the latest version of GetRight as it not only is a download manager, a podcatcher (in Pro beta 3) but in the next beta (available via the forums in alpha now) will have BitTorrent support! Way cool to have all these things in one, and it’s still getting better!
The ever-famous Anonymous (author of many notable quotes, volumes of prose, and bumper stickers throughout the ages) disagrees:
On the other hand:
Azureus:
- Not really that slow, esp if you’ve tweaked your system and made sure you got rid of non-essential background apps and defrag regularly.
- Pretty Intuitive at default level, allowing you to customize it to your system. My mother uses it; I use it.
- More fully-featured than any other Torrent software out there.
- Also has a fully-automated upgrade process.
- Is also updated frequently.
- Available as a .jar file, for people that already have java installed and know how to use it.
- The best multi-OS BitTorrent client around (IMHO)
- Has always been my default BitTorrent client
However:
- It is overkill for light to moderate users.
- It’s not the fastest out there, but not really that slow if you have a mid-range machine or above.
Just my $0.02 and the flipside of the coin.
then again, diff’rent strokes n’all.
MozTrilla’s suggestion:
I like µTorrent.. have played with it a bit, but I still go back to BitComet 0.60… it’s also fast, but supports TRACKERLESS downloads, which µTorrent doesn’t as yet… when that comes on board to µTorrent, I’ll probably be keen as mustard.
