No matter who you are, you have a story to tell. With the fusion of citizen journalism and podcasting, we’re beginning to hear from everyday people who may have never taken the opportunity to speak up otherwise. It’s amazing to find out how much you can learn about a person’s life story by just asking them a few simple questions. You may think you know someone, but chances are that there is a lot more underneath the surface. An honorable service called StoryCorps will guide you through the process of interviewing your friends and family.
StoryCorps isn’t as much of an online service as it is a physical one. They have two StoryBooths setup in New York City (Grand Central Terminal, World Trade Center), and two MobileBooths are also touring the country. You can go to these locations to interview your loved ones, and the suggested donation is only $10 for an hour-long session that is recorded to CD for you. Listen to some of the interviews for yourself in order to see how powerful and touching the conversations can be. Whether you use StoryCorps or not, make it a point to interview the people around you. Oh, and be sure to upload the conversations onto the Internet.
