Prevent Saved Settings In XP Home

Windows normally saves your settings when you log off. This way you do not have to reconfigure your preferred settings each time you log back on. You can change the default behavior and prevent Windows from saving settings when a user logs off the computer. To accomplish this in Windows XP Home edition, you must edit the registry using the steps listed below:

  1. Click Start and click Run.

  2. Type regedit and click Ok.
  3. Expand the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer.

  4. Double click the NoSaveSettings value. If the value does not exist, click Edit, point to New, and click DWORD Value. Type in NoSaveSettings and click OK.
  5. Double click the new DWORD value and set the value to 0.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.
