Gas. Gas? Gas!

While I know I shouldn’t be complaining about the price of gas in light of what’s been going on in the southern US lately, but I can’t help but recall the days when gas was less than $1 a gallon. I even remember complaining about the price of gas at $1.50, and being quickly admonished by our European Gnomies who were paying more than twice that amount for petrol (which is what they call gas o’er there). I avoided going to the pump when I needed to fill up, specifically because my heart couldn’t take the gas ticker turning over to 0. Ponzi ran to a local station and grabbed high-octane (91) gas at $3.09 a gallon. Not bad, considering in many places the same premium unleaded gas is closer to $3.50 (or more). There’s a reason why Brandon picked GasBuddy as a favorite earlier this year. I did some snooping around and found a few different contests, giveaways, and promotions that might be able to ease the “car” kind of gas pain:
- $250 Gas Card
- Guess how high gas prices will go
- Another $250 Gas Card
- 500 Gallons of Gas
- Gasoline Giveaway
- Gas Survey
- $500 Gas Card
Feel free to take these links for a ride; a little hope is better than no hope at all. I don’t see gas prices falling anytime soon. The demand for gas is still just as high as it ever was, and we just haven’t felt the pinch yet. Carpool lanes seem to be just as packed as before, and rush hour is still bumper-to-bumper traffic. I wonder how high gas prices will have to climb before we climb out of our motor vehicles and into something a little more eco-friendly? My guess is that at the $5 per gallon mark, we’ll see a greater reliance on public transportation. Hybrid cars sound like a great idea now, too. Lucky for me, I didn’t feel the need to get an SUV.
