Gmail Is Great, But…

Gmail is great, but I recently found out it doesn’t work well with
the Lockergnome mailings.
You’re right. Gmail takes over some of the browser properties, and it
doesn’t play 100% nice with the Lockergnome pages. People using the
Mozilla family of browsers tend to have more problems, but the last
time I checked, IE didn’t display perfectly, either. That’s why Gmail
is still in beta. Considering how good it is now, imagine how it will
be when the bugs are gone!
There are also intermittent rumors that Google plans to bring out its
own browser, integrating Gmail along with a bunch of other Google
features. You may recall that Google hired two of the top programmers
from Mozilla.org a few months ago. My guess is that they will bring
out a browser based on the Gecko engine, as are Mozilla and Fx.
Google’s habit of keeping its mouth shut and introducing innovations
for folks to discover more-or-less on their own would be in keeping
with the close-mouthed attitude about the browser.
We can only imagine (for now) a browser combining the best of Firefox
and Google. Now that would give Microsoft something to worry
about!
