16 More To Be Arrested For Zotob Worm

If you have been in the loop lately about the Zotob worm, you know all about how many companies and personal computers that it affected. If you listened to my segment on The Chris Pirillo Show this past week, you would’ve heard about how it affected the on air performance at CNN and ABC News.

Well, on August 26th, two men (Farid Essebar and Turkish resident, Attila Ekici) were arrested in connection with the worm. Now, there are another 16 people who are sought to also have connection with the creation/distribution of the worm. Turkish police have apparantly identified these people, and hope to arrest them shortly.

According to Red Herring:

Authorities said Tuesday they hope to arrest 16 more people in connection with the Zotob worm outbreak and may be working on the biggest virus bust in history.

The announcement came four days after authorities arrested two men linked to the worm that crashed networks at major U.S.
corporations earlier this month (see Two Arrested in Zotob Probe).

Word of the new suspects came as an FBI update on the case revealed that Internet gangs of virus and worm writers may be behind Zotob and other malicious software. These gangs are involved in an increasingly high-stakes game as a new breed of viruses attacks corporations to steal private data and trade secrets (see Zotob Heralds ‘Business Worm’)…
