Google Talk Is Pretty Cool

Well, this was a real treat.

I posted my Google Talk account on Lockergnome a few days ago so that people could speak with me. In that time, I’ve spoken with several people:

A mother who is afraid of technology, but keeps up with it because of her subscriptions to the various Lockergnome newsletters.

A couple of folks from a World of Warcraft guild who were looking into the capabilities of the system and just wanted to talk games.

A child (about ten years old?) who heard about it and was apparently really shocked when he heard my booming voice!
And a couple of conversations that consisted of “oh, uhm, yeah, well, this is cool… and really clear… yeah, well, got to go, bye.”

But the best conversation I’ve had has to be the one I just finished: an older gentleman had called just to test his setup. He originally used Skype in order to keep in touch with his family members who have since moved across the country; however, the noise introduced from the compression hurt his ears. Google Talk was so clear that he could easily use it, and intends to do so in order to keep in touch with his grandson.

That’s pretty cool.
