Surfing The Net With Kids

One of my favorite all-time Web sites around is the subject of today’s site. Surfing the Net with Kids is one of the best non-educational educational sites I have come across. What makes it so appealing is that not only does it provide information for kids, but for adults as well. Teachers, students and other educators will find the information here truly wide ranging, and very topical as well.

There are several areas that make this site so interesting. There are weekly topics that cover as wide an area as I have seen. For the month of June, for example, topics were Father’s Day, Korea, Harry Potter, the American Flag, and Billy the Kid. The topics are usually chosen to coincide with a specific date; for instance, the American Flag was featured for the week of Flag Day.

Speaking of dates, there are many sites listed for each calendar date. On August 1st, there were links to the First US Census (Aug. 1, 1790), Anne Frank’s last Diary Entry (Aug. 1, 1944), the US purchase of Alaska (Aug. 1, 1868), and Francis Scott Key’s birthday (Aug. 1, 1779, and extra credit if you know what he did to become famous)…
