Right before I went to Gnomedex this year, I purchased an iSight camera for my PowerBook so that I could capture video like this. It’s a lot of fun to toy with video, and now that I have the capability to record what’s going on around me, my brain is working overtime to come up with ideas on what I should record next. A growing community of vloggers is standing up and being heard, and their work is teeming with creativity. Instead of only hosting content on their own servers, many videobloggers are turning to services that feature their work right along with other people’s submissions. Vimeo will give your content a larger audience, and help to ease some of your bandwidth concerns.
This service is relatively new, and they are continually improving it, so you may encounter a few glitches from time to time, as is the case with anything like this. You’ll receive your own page that contains your clips (they accept any video format), viewer comments, and an RSS feed for your content. Vimeo also features tagging, so you’ll be able to organize your clips appropriately. In terms of uploading, there is an 8MB weekly limit for each user. Depending on the quality and length of your files, that may not be enough space for you. Therefore, Vimeo is a great option for those of us who just want to capture quick bits of video as opposed to making epic productions.
