Desktop Notes

Here’s a quick way to leave yourself little reminders on the desktop:

  1. Open WordPad

  2. Write the note, then select it.
  3. Drag it to the desktop.

The desktop will recognize your note as an OLE object, and will label it “WordPad Document Scrap” along with a couple of words from the text. You can leave it that way, or right click on it and rename the scrap. Either way, when you click on the icon your note will open in WordPad. This saves the hassel of telling the program where to save it, what to call it, etc.

If you’re running Microsoft AntiSpyware (and if you aren’t, why aren’t you?), it will pop up a window when you click your note’s icon. Just click the “Yes” button. If you’re running Script Sentry, from Jason’s Toolbox, you’ll just have to decide which you want more, S/S, or the ability to leave yourself notes. There’s always Turbo Note.

(Unfortunately this will not work with any other text editor, as far as I’m aware.)
