Change The Group Policy Refresh Interval (2000/2003)

  • No Related Post

Windows ensures that changes made to group policy settings are automatically applied without your intervention. The group policy refresh policy interval determines how often group policy settings are automatically updated. Computer and user policy settings are updated every 90 minutes while domain controller policy settings are updates every 5 minutes. By editing the appropriate GPO, you can change the default values to increase or decrease them (values can range from 0 to 64,800 minutes).

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Right click the appropriate container (domain or OU) and click properties.
  3. Select the Group Policy tab.
  4. Click your group policy object and click Edit.
  5. To change the computer policy refresh rate, expand the following: Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Group Policy. Conversely to change the user policy refresh rate, expand User Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Group Policy.
  6. In the details pane, double click the Group Policy refresh interval for computers option.
  7. Click Enabled.
  8. Type in a new refresh rate.
  9. Enter a new refresh interval. This prevents all computers from requesting updates at the same time.
  10. Click OK.
