9/10 Teens Eschew E-mail, Embrace Instant Messenger

A just-released study shows that nearly 90% of all teenagers are now online, and use e-mail and other Internet programs on a regular basis. However, they also see e-mail as something you use with old people, like parents and teachers. The method of choice for communication with friends is instant messenger.
Some of the findings by the Pew Internet and American Life Project survey are surprising, but some are not, or at least shouldn’t be.
For example, the survey found that older teen girls “are among the most intense users of the Internet and cell phones, including text messaging.”
This “debunks the myth of the tech-savvy boy,” said Amanda Lenhart, one of the Pew researchers.
