Use Drop Caps In Word

There are different ways that you can spice up your documents. One such way is to use Drop Caps at the beginning of a paragraph. So what is a drop cap anyways? If you pay close attention to how some documents are formatted, you may have noticed that the first letter of some paragraphs is larger that others, thereby calling attention to the start of the paragraph. This is referred to as a Drop Cap.

You can include a drop cap in your document very easily. From the Format menu, click the Drop Cap option. A dialog box will appear allowing you to select the option you want. You can choose from:

  • None

  • Dropped
  • In margin

Once you select this option, the first letter of your paragraph will appear larger to offset it from the rest of the letters. Another tip as well, if you work with Publisher, it comes with many more drop case options than Word.
