Hotmail Users: Wondering Where Your Email Has Gone? Look in Your Junkfolder

Microsoft has just announced that they are now requiring that email sent to Hotmail accounts must use Microsoft Sender I.D. or the email will be marked with a big yellow box and put in the junk folder or maybe even deleted. That big yellow box across the top of the email says “The sender of this message could not be verified by Sender ID.”

It’s been the better part of a year since Microsoft was told in no uncertain terms that its Sender I.D. proposal was unacceptable and not going to become the industry standard for email authentication.

Now, for better or worse, Microsoft has firmly drawn a line in the sand which says ‘our servers, our rules. If you don’t publish our authentication scheme, our server will tag your email as spam.’

Interestingly, “our server, our rules” has been the mantra for many in the anti-spam community for many years. Yet, they seem to be yelling the loudest over what many see to be a power play by Microsoft.

In the meantime, as usual, it’s the users who are caught in the middle…

I’ve tried joining several message boards without any success using Hotmail.com. I’d never receive the activation e-mail. I did everything I could, including adding the domain to my “Safe List”, and still wouldn’t pass through Hotmail.com. I e-mailed support, and they sent me very lengthy instructions to ask the Admins of the message boards to accomplish. Of course anyone in their right mind wouldn’t follow all these instructions just to allow one user to their message board:

In order to help you with your issue, we need to have the administrator at @messageboard.com send us some additional information. For us to quickly resolve the problem, we need the information at http://postmaster.msn.com/Troubleshooting.aspx to be sent to our Domain Delivery Support Team.
The answers to the questions should be sent to the e-mail address specified on the web page. Once the message is received by the Hotmail Domain Delivery Support Team they will be able to assist you in troubleshooting this issue.
You are a valuable customer to MSN and we are glad to give you consistent and effective service. We appreciate your patience and understanding about the matter.

Sincerely,

I like the fact that I’m a valuable customer, but I wrote back to Kristian and told her how unreasonable it was to have the Admin jump through all their actions. I’m in the process of switching to another e-mail account. Good Bye Hotmail…we had a good 10 year run.

all my e-mail have vanished,I do not know why.I read something about ,they might be in my junk mail…no luck .I have been sick and was not on here for about a week and all my e-mails are gone .pic’s of my grandkids …out of stsate I have been using hot mailfor 6 yr’s .Some thing is not right and my p.c. is new can you tell me what is happening??
thank’s Patti

All my folders in my hotmail account are empty! All the emails before August that I’ve saved are gone! What in the heck happened? 7 years of information and pictures gone. I’ve been kicked in the stomach…
And I’m logged in almost daily.

All my Hotmail email has disappeared and I am heartsick!!!!!
I have been unable to access my Hotmail account for a couple of weeks and BOOM- I go in today and everything is gone!! Sentimental emails my husband sent when we were dating that were absolutely priceless to me. They are nowhere to be found………….. This is sickening.

I had a hotmail.com email account - emails were sent and received to and from “@hotmail.com - now I cant even find any trace of it and I seem to have an email account with Hotmail.co.uk — but anything sent to hotmail.com just dissapears into thin air - are hotmail.com and hotmail.co.uk one and the same - I am new to computers and this has got me really confused - all I want to know is why when I try to find hot mail.com - I get hot mail.co.uk and cannot find hotmail.com anywhere.
