Add Page Numbers To Your Documents (Word 2002/2003)

Using the Headers and Footers toolbar, you can insert page numbers into your Word document. Each new page will automatically include a new page number. Inserting them is relatively simple and once you get the hang of it, you can begin playing around with some of the different page numbering options to spice up your documents.

  1. From the View menu, click Header and Footer. The Header and Footer toolbar will appear.

  2. Click the Insert Page Number button.
  3. Click the Close button.

Basic page numbers will now appear in your document. If you want the total number of pages listed as well, for example the page number will be displayed as Page 2 of 20, open the Header and Footer toolbar as described in step 1 above. This time, click the drop down arrow beside Insert AutoText and click Page X of Y. Click Close.
