Eraser v5.7

Do you have something to hide? Maybe you are about to get rid of your computer, give it to a friend, and want to make sure they don’t go looking for your old files. No matter what your reason is, every so often everybody has a reason to remove sensitive data from a hard drive by overwriting it several times. Just because you delete something, that doesn’t mean that it is gone forever.

The program is simple and easy to get running on your personal computer. Once you get it going, you can define your own overwriting methods or use those used by such places as the US Department of Defense. Just remember that once you get going, you will not be able to get this data back.

Most people have some data that they would rather not share with others - passwords, personal information, classified documents from work, financial records, self-written poems, the list can be continued forever.

Perhaps you have saved some of this information on your computer where it is conveniently at your reach, but when the time comes to remove the data from your hard disk, things get a bit more complicated and maintaining your privacy is not as simple as it may have seemed at first.

I just have to include one small warning. Make sure you don’t play around with this unless you know what you are doing. If you don’t want to start cleaning out the hard drive by overwriting the data so many times it cannot be recovered, don’t use this program. This is for those hardcore paranoid folks like myself who want to give somebody else a computer but want to make sure none of my top secret files are seen by anybody else but me. Just think of it as the proverbial tape that self destructs after you have heard it all. For those of you who I haven’t frightened off, give it a shot if you are in the need for a good eraser.
