Include The File Name In A Header Or Footer

Headers and footers can contain different information such as page numbers, author name, date, and so on. At some point you may be required to include the name of the document in a header or footer. This is also a good way of quickly recalling the file name for a printed document.

In any case, including this information is fairly straight forward and can be accomplished by performing the few simple steps listed below:

  1. Within your document, click Header and Footer from the View menu. The Header and Footer dialog box will appear.

  2. Choose either the header or footer, depending on where you want the file name to be located. You can do this by clicking the Switch button.
  3. Click where you want the filename to be located.
  4. Use the drop down arrow under Insert AutoText and select Filename. If this option is not available, continue on to step 5. Otherwise, the filename should now be included in your header or footer.
  5. From the Insert menu, click Field.
  6. Use the drop down arrow under Categories to select Document Information.
  7. From the Field Name list, click Filename.
  8. Click OK.
