Return Of The Vlogs… Or Is It The Clogs? Or Is It The Sith?

This article has two purposes - well, maybe three. First and foremost it shows that many people read Lockergnome. I believe this points out the importance of putting out good information and to correct errant information as soon as possible.

The second purpose is just plain old blatant self promotion. Mine, of course. Much to my surprise I received an e-mail from Steven Knoerr, who has a position within Chicago Captioning Corporation. Here is a reproduction of his e-mail to me, and I would like to thank him for following through because networking is everything in the Internet world.

Connie, I was very interested in your comments regarding the captioning for Jeff Jarvis. Of course, when Chicago Captioning did the work for Jeff, we were excited about the possibility of a conversation about the utility of captioning or the blogosphere. I commented about your Lockergnome article on my blog - Connie’s article (sorry, I can’t figure out how to work trackbacks).

I’m so glad that you were able to “get it.” There is huge potential that captioning can really enable video producers to get their message out to the widest audience possible.

So, after receiving this e-mail, I also went to Steven’s blog.

Scroll down the page and the original article from Lockergnome is reprinted along with comments regarding the article and other aspects of Vlogs.

The third purpose of this article is to bring attention to something that Steven mentioned. I concede that when I named the article on Vlogs, I used the word “clogs” as a rhyme. Well, I am always pleased to learn something new that we can fashion in our Internet world that will reach the most people. I think Steven’s mention of “clog” as captioning for the deaf is definitely forward thinking.

Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am STILL very excited about Vlogs and will continue to follow their progress. They will, of course, require bandwidth, but we have always surmounted any and all obstacles to new technology and we will continue to do so.

As Steven mentioned, I do “get it” and think that it is a seed that will sprout in many different directions. Things can be cool and neat and all of those descriptive words, but at the same time they can be useful tools.

I am hoping to have my Web site up in about a week or so, and when I do I will announce the name - and this technology is definitely something I will continue to report on.

What Do You Think?
