With the introduction of its new AIM Mail service, Internet giant America Online (AOL) has jumped on the “free Webmail with 2 gigabytes of storage” bandwagon, but with an added twist: the new service is tied in to your AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) account.

AOL Instant Messenger Mail (AIM Mail - get it? AIM Mail… Air Mail… cute, eh?) is directly tied to your AIM account, and in fact it uses your AIM screen name as your e-mail username, and as the sign on name for your AIM Mail account, just as it is for your AIM account. Logging in through the Webmail portal will bring you to an “AIM Today” screen, from which you can access your AIM Mail.
