Change The Default Group Policy Refresh Rate

  • No Related Post

The default Group Policy refresh rate for users and computers is 90 minutes (five minutes for domain controllers). You can be assured then that any changes you make to policy settings will eventually be applied. However, you may want settings refreshed more or less often than 90 minutes. If this is the case, you can change the default rate if the 90 minutes does not meet your requirements. The following steps outline how you can change the refresh rate for computers.

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Right click the appropriate container (domain or OU) and click properties.
  3. Select the Group Policy tab.
  4. Click your group policy object and click Edit.
  5. Expand the following: Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Group Policy.
  6. In the details pane, double click the Group Policy refresh interval for computers option.
  7. Click Enabled.
  8. Type in a new refresh rate.
  9. Enter a new refresh interval. This prevents all computers from requesting updates at the same time.
  10. Click OK.
