How Do I Fix “Invalid Or Expired Security Certificate” Errors?

Hi, Dave. Maybe you can help me with this problem. Whenever I try to go on a site that requires secure log-in, such as my bank, eBay, etc., I get a security warning pop-up saying there is a problem with the site’s security certificate. It says “the security certificate has expired or is not yet valid” and gives me options to continue yes/no or view certificate. I am operating Windows ME and IE 6, all updated and I also run AVG free anti-virus and Spybot S&D regularly. I have searched the Web for answers to this and also asked several people, including my bank’s IT helpline. I have done everything suggested but still get the warning!
After thinking about this for a while, I wasn’t sure that I had any particularly great solution to propose. My standard response would be to check the security preferences of the Web browser and to try visiting one or more of the sites using a different browser like Firefox.
In a private dialog, however, I was pleased to hear that the chap who sent in this question figured out the problem on his own, and it’s a beauty…

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

Adjust your date and time. That fixes it. I kept getting it too and I fixed my date and time in windows and it went away.

Check your time settings. It’s probably nothing more than the year being wrong. :)

This problem has been bothering me for ages now, almost a month and I still cant seem to find a fix, and yes my time is correct it is sychronized automatically online, and I even checked to make sure my clock in thbios is set properly which it is. I am really stumped, why do I still get the error message about the security certificates, and how can I fix it? My system clock is set correctly, and I have tried just about everything I can think of to fix this. Please help me if you can I would really like to be able to open web pages without going through ages of hassles just to check my email.
Right now just to check my email I have to click “continue to website anyway” 2times before I can enter my password, then once again after my password which is 3 times to finally open a windows live account page, and then open my email in a different explorer window and click “continue to website anyway” one more time before I can finally get to my email. This is very frustrating considering once I am logged into my windows live messenger it should just open in one click and already have my password enetered when I logged into messenger. This is the case for other websites also. Juast that one is the most frustrating. I know that the websites should all have valid up to date certificates, but my computer does not agree. I have run many a virus scan using Kaspersky 6.024, and spyware scans using Ad-Aware 2007, I also clean up temp files regularly using the freeware program “Cleanup” (a great little prog).
Any how I really hope you can offer me some idea about whats going wrong here. I am running Windows XP SP2 professional, I have had this problem for a while now and I just dont know what I can do to fix it. I have tried all I can think of to no avail. I am sorry for going on and on, I hope you understand my problem, Thanks

I really wish it was that simple, but unfortunately it is not. I have the problem with the server certificate errors, and it is very very frustrating because I can not find a fix for it anywhere. And the bigest thing I hear is that my time is wrong, well it is not. My system has got the exact right time in the bios and in the windows clock, down to the second it is exactly right hour, minute, second, AM / PM month, day, and year. They are absolutely correct.
I am posting this at 9:01 PM eastern standard time in the year 2007.
I have my clocks set correctly and I still have the server certificate error when opening web pages, particularly with MSN webpages, and Windows Live pages like hotmail and such.
Any help at all will be greatly apreciated.
Thanks
Nikki

I SOLVED THIS ON MY COMPUTER BY ADDING EXCLUSION IN INTERNET SECURITY SUITE. I use KIS 7.0 1.325 it scan encrypted connection on (HTTP SSL (https://)) 443 port.
This cause invalid certificate error, expired certificate error (Opera, Firefox) and add-on error services.addons.mozilla.org: 443 uses an invalid security certificate) in Firefox
First Installed on my Computer
1. XP service pack 2
2. Firefox 3.0.1
3. Opera 9.60 (Default Browser)
4. KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security) 7.0.1.325
Try These Steps:
Open KIS settings -> Select Threats and Exclusions -> Open Trusted Zone -> Select Trusted Applications Tab -> Click Add -> Browse Firefox/Opera -> Select Only One Property =>>>>DO NOT SCAN NETWORK TRAFFIC =>>>>
SET THESE RULES
1. Do not scan ENCRYPTED network traffic
2. At ANY remote host
3. And at SELECTED
4. Remote port 443
=>>Ok save exit
