Hide The Security Tab When Simple File Sharing Is Disabled (XP Pro)

  • No Related Post

If you disable simple file sharing, you can use the Security tab from a folder or files properties dialog box to set permissions. However, setting permissions does require some knowledge as to how they are applied and used. You may want to keep simple file sharing disabled but hide the Security tab from other users.

So on that note, you can perform this task by editing the Windows XP registry. Doing so will hide the Security tab so it is not visible to XP users when they are viewing the properties for an object such as a file. To do so:

  1. click Start, click run, and type regedit. Click OK.
  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies/Explorer.
  3. Double click NeSecurityTab and change the value for NoSecurityTab to 1.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close the Registry Editor.
