Enable Dynamic Update (2k/03)

Dynamic update was first introduced with Windows 2000 DNS. It enabled clients running Windows 2000 (and later versions) to update their own resource records with a DNS server. This make administering zone files much more efficient. What about pre-Windows 2000 clients such as Windows 95?
This is where a DHCP server becomes even more important. If you are using DHCP (Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003) on your network, you can configure the DHCP server to update resource records on behalf of legacy clients. To do so in Windows Server 2003:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and click DHCP.
- Within the DHCP console, right click your DHCP server and click Properties.
- From the Properties window, click the DNS tab.
- Select the option to Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates (for example, clients running Windows NT 4.0)
