Looking for a little piece of Hawaii in your own back yard? I would recommend trying to get some sand from one of the beaches, but that would be sort of impossible.
Crazy Shirts is a company that anyone who has had the pleasure of visiting the islands is familiar with. It manufactures the great shirts that can found in just about any shop. The reason is it makes a quality shirt at a reasonable price, and makes great souvenirs to bring back to the mainland. But now, it is possible for anyone to get a piece of heaven simply by clicking on the keyboard. Not only can you visit its online store, but also you can read the mission statement and find out what makes the people of Crazy Shirts tick.
[Crazy Shirts, continued]
For 40 years Crazy Shirts has seen the islands change from sleepy to sleek, from isolated to up-to-date. Our little company has grown from one grass shack in Waikiki to a diverse group spanning the globe in 38 unique shops. You can find our original T-shirts in your favorite vacation getaways from Guam to Florida in our catalog store and on the Web. What a crazy journey it has been!
Back in 1964 teenagers were a powerful force as baby boomers moved into their college years. “Bikini Beach Party” with Annette played in movie theaters. Waikiki Beach Boys taught surfing to Hawaii tourists who were staying in the newly opened Outrigger Island and the famous Ilikai. The Waikiki Shell hosted another “Surf Battle” concert with 10,000 screaming teens and an impressive list of bands. Surfing was riding a wave of popularity.
Waikiki’s entertainment hub in 1964 was International Market Place where the first Crazy Shirts shop was born. T-shirts with a message sold. Some were silly (like “Suck ‘em Up!”), some were logos (like “Surfboards Hawaii”), and some were controversial (like “Draft beer not students”). Timing is everything? Crazy Shirts was an instant success.
