Anyone who uses IM knows that there are certain times that you wish to appear as being online, and others where you would just rather ignore everyone on your buddy list. I’m sure that most of us have done the quick sign in and sign out procedure to see if the person or people that we wanted to talk to were online. Without fail, it seems like you always get bombarded with pointless conversation starters whenever you do this. Of course, you never even meant to talk to a bunch of people, but instead, you’ll find yourself discussing stucco with someone at length. Snore. A program called Messenger Status 1.0 is the missing link for this type of situation.
This program lets you do a quick check to see if your buddies are online on AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!, or MSN. Just type their screen name in, select the IM software that they’re on, and do a check. This software is extremely useful for those of you who are picky with your IM chatting rituals. Now this may seem cruel to some people, but it is necessary in certain situations. Hey, it’s better than ignoring people. I know you can ban certain people from seeing you online, but Messenger Status 1.0 is a slightly more helpful solution because it allows you to check on people before you sign in. Be prepared to scroll through a horrendous Web page in order to find the program link. By the way, why is the program window not big enough for the text at the bottom? Little things like that really annoy me.
