Browser Printing

Q: I’m having some issues with printing in Internet Explorer. When I click the print button in the browser, my printer proceeds to print out the entire page (with graphics and all), and this sometimes messes up the text and cuts it off. How do I only print the selected text that I want?

A: If Internet Explorer doesn’t know any better, it will just assume that you want the entire contents of the page printed out. This is satisfactory some of the time, but when you only want an excerpt of text, it can be annoying. Instead of copying and pasting the desired text to your word processor in order to print it out, you can do so through your browser.

In IE, select the text that you want to print by highlighting it with your mouse. Once the appropriate text has been selected, right click on the block of text and choose Print. Under the heading that says Page Range, choose the Selection option. Now, by clicking on Print, you’ll get a hard copy of the content that matters. To do this in Firefox, select the text, go to the File menu and click on Print, choose Selection under the Print Range heading, and then click on OK.
