Problems With GPO Proxy Settings Across A VPN Connection

One of the things you can do with Group Policy is configure the proxy settings for Internet Explorer. However, you may find that these settings are applied to your computers on the local network but some settings are implemented when users connect to the network across a VPN.

If you are encountering this problem, you need to verify the “slow link connection” speeds. In particular, you need to do the following group policy settings:

  1. Open the appropriate group policy.

  2. Expand the following: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy
  3. Double click Internet Explorer Maintenance policy processing.
  4. Place a check beside Allow processing across a slow network connection. Click OK.
  5. Expand the following: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy.
  6. Double click Group Policy slow link detection.
  7. Verify the connection speed configured.
