Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates is donating $750 million to pay for wider vaccination programs in developing countries, British newspapers reported Tuesday.

Gates said he hoped the donation would spur more Western governments to address world health inequalities.

“There is a challenge of keeping world health in front of people, because it is in a sense a tragedy just happening there in the background,” he told the Times in an interview. “If there is any belief that life should be treated with any equity, then that is an investment for which the resources have to be found.”
