Many of you probably started playing a musical instrument when your parents automatically set you up with lessons when you were just a kid. You may have hated it then, but almost everyone who took lessons as a child is thankful for the experience. Even though you may have forgotten a lot of what you learned, the lessons allowed you to exercise a part of your brain that is often neglected. If you still continue to play the instrument to this day, then good for you. I didn’t start playing the guitar because of my parents - my motivation was the movie “That Thing You Do.” I remember the feeling that I had when that movie ended. I wanted to get a guitar right then and there, and I wanted to be in a band… immediately. Unfortunately, things don’t usually move along that fast. Apparently I needed to learn how to play first. Who knew? One site that helped me out a lot in the beginning was Guitar Tab Universe.
The site provides lessons, tips, and other interesting content, but the main focus is their collection of guitar tablature. If you don’t know what tablature is, it’s basically an easy way for you learn how to play songs. Instead of learning notes and all that jazz, you can quickly learn the structure of a song based off of a sequence of numbers. Search for your favorite songs and artists and see what you can dig up. The database is packed with a lot of great songs, and I’m sure you’ll find something you can pick along with. Whether you’re a new or seasoned player, Guitar Tab Universe has an accumulation of content that is sure to please.
