Tackling the Scanner

Q: I just purchased a scanner, and I’m going to try to scan in a bunch of my family photographs. I don’t know anything about scanning, but I really want to make sure that my picture scans come out as good as they possibly can. Where can I go to receive some basic scanning education?

A: Basic scanning [on a flatbed scanner or sheet-fed scanner] is very simple these days, but if you really want to achieve the best results, you should learn more about the specifics of the scanning process. There are definitely a bunch of terms that will confuse the beginner, and in order to remedy this situation, you’ll need to start from the beginning with Scanning Basics 101.

This site covers most of the initial questions that you’ll have when it comes to scanning. The FAQ sections will prove to be especially helpful for neophytes. Besides the large collection of information that this site alone contains, you’ll also find links to other resources that will be of assistance. Before you make that first scan, use Scanning Basics 101 to learn how you can work that [flatbed scanner or sheet-fed scanner] like a pro.
