Displaying the Security Tab in Active Directory Users and Computers

If you want to set access control permissions on an object within Active Directory, you open the properties dialog box and use the Security tab. However, you may notice that when you first open the properties dialog box for an object there is no security tab. This is the default behavior and a few clicks will make it visible again.

To make the security tab visible in Active Directory Users and Computers in Windows Server 2003:

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative tools, and click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Click the View menu.

  3. Place a check beside Advanced Features.

Now when you open the properties dialog box for an object, the Security tab will be visible and you can set access control permissions.

Thank you for this!!!

Just learned something new. Many thanks as I needed to access the Security Tab but was very confused why it wasn’t showing. Typical of MS Technet that they give lots of reference to using it and making settings but leave out the gotas…like how to make it visible!
