Windows XP Professional Upgrade

  • No Related Post

Q: I currently have Windows XP Home Edition installed on my computer, and was wondering if it’s possible for me to upgrade to Windows XP Professional without losing all of my files. Can I do this?

A: If your computer is running an older version of Windows, you’ll likely wish to upgrade if you have the chance. Of course, I do know of a lot of people who just don’t like to fix something that’s not broken. To them, their Windows 98 machine is running just fine, and the change to Windows XP sounds too cumbersome. In your case, the upgrade to XP Professional will give you extra functionality over the watered down Home Edition. You’ll be happy to know that you can install the Professional upgrade over your current Home Edition, as seen in this chart.

That chart from Microsoft will give you a good idea of what systems will allow you to do an in-place upgrade to XP. If you’ve been contemplating upgrading your system, give the chart a look. It’ll give you a better idea about what you can and can’t do.
