If you work with stock quotes in Excel 2002, you can easily insert an automatically updating stock price quote for a specific company into your spreadsheet. Once you have your spreadsheet open, complete the following steps:
- From the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect options.
- Click the Smart Tags tab and place a check beside Label data with smart tags.
- Click OK.
- Type in a recognized U.S. financial symbol (such as MSFT) in a cell. Make sure the symbol is done in all caps.
- Click outside of the cell.
- Place your mouse cursor over the purple triangle in the lower-right corner of the cell. Click the arrow.
- Click Insert refreshable stock price.
- Select whether to insert the stock price on a new worksheet or in a specific area on your current worksheet.
You can refresh a stock quote price at any time by right clicking anywhere within your worksheet and selecting Data Range Properties. Enter a value for how often the stock quote price should be refreshed. For example, you can enter in 60 to have the price updated every hour.

I am using Excel 2000 but can update to 2002. I get DDE data fed to my excel spreadsheet right now. I can’t presently keep running totals of numbers as they are fed into my spreadsheet. Would Excel 2002 allow me to keep running totals? What would be the VBA code or formula for a running total in Excel 2000?
Thank you,
Steve
