Free/Busy Sharing in Outlook 2002

If you’ve worked with previous versions of Outlook, you may already be familiar with the Busy/Free feature that allowed you to share your busy and free times with others. In Outlook 2000, this was only possible with the use of an Exchange Server. However, in Outlook 2002, you can share your free and busy times with or without an Exchange Server. However, in order to do so, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Open Outlook 2002.

  2. From the Tools menu, click Options.

  3. Select the Preferences tab.

  4. Select the Calendar Options button.

  5. Select the Free/Busy Options button.

  6. Under Options, enter in the number of calendar months that you want to share.

  7. Enter in a value for the update interval.

  8. If you have your own server, select Publish at my location and enter in the address of your server. Alternatively, you can select Publish and search using Microsoft Office Internet Free/Busy Service if you want to use Microsoft’s free server. This option requires you to have a Passport account set up.

  9. Click OK. If prompted, insert the required CD to install additional components.
