Hormel Ready to Take Back the Spam

The Hormel corporation, long tolerant of its trademark “spam” being used to mean junk e-mail, has decided that it has had enough, and is ready to reclaim its rightful place as The Spam Company.

As part of its initiative, Hormel will be launching a multi-part ad campaign in the UK, where, apparently, Spam is actually considered an edible foodstuff.

With respect to the arguably rampant infringement of its trademark, Hormel’s policy to date had always seemed to be “you can use ’spam,’ but not “Spam” or “SPAM.” As if to bring home that point, last year Hormel sued anti-spam company… [Continued]
