BookCrossing

Imagine, if you will, a journey that spans countless locations and affects the lives of many. Despite obstacles, the hero of the story prevails against any hardships, namely the trash can. This, my friends, is the story of a book. While it may not be as glamorous as the aforementioned story, books do have a tremendous impact on lives. People all over the world have different interpretations of the material, and this thinking helps the book to live on forever. What would you think about a service that allows you to trade your books with complete strangers so you can get their thoughts on them? Welcome to BookCrossing.

This is the kind of project that would be fun to participate in just to see what happens. You first find a book that you personally enjoyed reading. You then register it with the site and contribute your comments on it. You’ll be given an ID number that you can write down in the book. Now you have to drop the book off in any location that you would like: coffee shop, Chuck E. Cheese’s, bathroom stall, bathroom stall in Chuck E. Cheese’s… the list could go on and on. If the person who finds it notices the BookCrossing ID, there is a chance that they could log onto the site and contribute their comments, as well. The hope is that the book gets passed around to as many people as possible. If you think the idea is impossible, think again. I searched the site for a book released in my location. Believe it or not, someone had apparently dropped off a book a week ago that was at a location that is literally only two miles away from me. Forget going to the library - just look for books scattered around your neighborhood.
