Gmail Updates

Finally! Gmail can now save drafts. That is one feature I sorely missed when using Gmail. You can also search contacts and forward e-mail messages to another account.

Gmail Notifier is a free app is available for downloading. It notifies you whenever you have new Gmail messages. An icon appears in the system tray, and shows the subjects, senders, and snippets. It requires Win2000, XP, or a newer version. To get the program, go to New Features / Gmail Notifier [Learn More].

Click on GmailInstaller.exe to install the program. At the end of the installation, it asks for your Gmail sign-in information. The envelope icon appears in the system tray. Right-click it for the following options: View Inbox, Check Mail Now, Tell me Again (repeats the most recent notification or indicates no new messages), Options (set it so that when you click on mailto: link to use Gmail. Also for determing which browser to use when displaying inbox), and About.

Next – improve the filter so I can filter multiple FROM e-mail addresses into the same folder instead of having to create a separate filter for every e-mail address to go into the same folder. I have a folder for “Unread Newsletters” and obviously there are many e-mail addresses that can be filtered into that folder. It doesn’t look like I can create one filter when the action is the same.

For right now, I’m not going to recommend HP products for a bit. Way to much indecision on HPs part, plus they ruined WebOS, something I will be salty about for years. I’m going to give them 6 months to figure this out. If they don’t, good bye HP.

I dunno…I’ve been a die hare HP fan for a long time. Even with all the upsets, it’s going to be hard for me to be completely angry at them. I forgive easily :)

HP’s customer service is deplorable. I had bought an all-in-one printer and had no need to use the scan function for the first year. At that time, I couldn’t figure out how to make certain settings global. The manual and Help options were useless. I set up a Chat session. They told me that the warranty had expired and they were going to charge me $25(?) for the answer. I disconnected, did a Google search and found out I couldn’t do what I wanted to do (although I could do it on an older HP all-in-one I had). So they were going to charge me $25 to tell me the newer machine didn’t have the software capability a much older machine had.

The kicker is that I wasn’t asking them to fix the machine – just to clear up poor documentation. The warranty should have had nothing to do with it.

    Hello Ron,
I couldn’t agree more. I just purchase a new laptop and chose a Dell Inspiron.
Since I already own 2 others and have always been happy with them, there really wasn’t any other choice for me.

I had a Hp that crashed and the recovery disc was damged. I got a Dell recover disc and the machine came back to life but kept downloading Hp updates for the MB and proprietary diagnostics until it reverted back to a Hp about a year later.
It could be something like how Asus started to become the outsource go to for Dell and years later there is no real Dell anymore and Asus builds the entire machine under many brand names for just about anyone that wants a Asus machine.

I used to be a real HP fan. That ended after they outsourced customer service. After a couple of really frustrating experiences I’ll have nothing to do with them anymore. I still own and use some HP cameras, scanners, & printers, but I’ve bought 3 computers, 2 all-in-one printers, and a camera since my last HP purchase. As long as their customer service stays as poor as it is there will not be another HP purchase.
