Lake Tahoe Gets Invaded by Geeks

There’s tons of stuff to do in Lake Tahoe. Next week, for instance, you can attend our annual conference. According to Tahoe.com: “The California-Nevada state line bisects Lake Tahoe and visitors will find grand casinos and hotels clustered as close to the Nevada side on both the North Shore and South Shore (one hotel / casino - the Cal-Neva - has the state line running right through the middle of the building, including a swimming pool that is in both states.)” I’ve been in the deep end before, but that’s about as exciting as my aquatic adventures get. Tahoe has mountains, beaches, forests, and (of course) a lake - but the beauty of the great outdoors is usually lost on me. I’m the one who’s always asking for the nearest Wi-Fi connection. And yes, there will be plenty of wireless bandwidth in Lake Tahoe. At least, for Gnomedexers. Some might ask why this exotic location was chosen, over all the other cities in the world. Why Lake Tahoe? The answer is simple: I don’t know. The three people who pretty much got the ball rolling are no longer working for Lockergnome. However, I’m firmly convinced that this year will be our best one yet - putting the last three conferences to shame. It has nothing to do with Lake Tahoe, though; it has everything to do with who’s coming.
Unwittingly, we assembled a collection of Internet entrepreneurs and active visionaries. Nobody really knows what’s going to happen at the event, but that doesn’t keep us from doing it (again and again). By now, you’ve probably made up your mind on whether or not you’re going to trek to Tahoe. Most of you, sadly, will not be able to attend. However, this year, we’re working with IT Conversations to stream Gnomedex live into your computer speakers. Naturally, you’ll miss out on the more exciting scheduled events (not to mention the fantastic conversations that always happen in the hallway). Dave McClure tells me that everybody there is gonna get a free copy of the PayPal Hacks book! Plus, we’re giving out professionally-pressed CDs of Friday’s audio recording at no charge. I know that’s not going to push you over the edge and into Lake Tahoe, but at least you’ll know that we’re coming through for the average geek once again. It’ll be nice to see old friends - and I’m very much looking forward to making new ones. You’ll be missed in Tahoe, but I’ll do my best to make sure you don’t miss out on everything. It’s just another way for me to say “thank you.” Tahoe isn’t that far away, is it?
