Dialing 9 To Get Connected

While traveling a few months back, I encountered a small problem when trying to dial into my ISP from a hotel room. Dialing out, I obviously had to dial 9 before to access an outside line. No problem, just add a “9″ in front of the number I need to dial for my ISP.

So this is where the problem started. It seems my computer was dialing the number for my ISP before the outside line could be accessed. To fix the problem, I added two commas after the 9 and before the number of my ISP so my computer would pause before actually dialing the number. This way, an outside line could be accessed, then the phone number dialed. Thank the front desk manager at the Hyatt for that tidbit of knowledge.
