It would seem the scare of Linux desktops gaining any ground have frightened the folks up in Redmond so much that they are coming out with a stripped down version of the Windows XP operating system.
Referred to as Windows XP Starter Edition, it would be targeted at first time computer users. Windows XP Starter Edition will initially be offered in Thai, Malay, and Indonesian languages. A great sum of the operating system will come already configured for standard computer uses.
This might be Microsoft’s way of trying out a stripped down version of the operating system. In effect, to see how it might compete with the growing demand of companies like HP coming out with Linux desktop systems. No word yet if Microsoft is going to accept tech support calls in the Thai, Malay and Indonesian languages yet though.
