Smooth FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a glorious thing for Web Developers. It allows you to get files on and off of a server, and manipulate them as well. Along with this, the method is generally very fast and simple. I’m sure you have your personally preferred software FTP client, but have you ever thought about using the Web? If not, it’s time to take some Ginkgo Biloba and start thinking about, because SmoothFTP is in town.

The interface is clean, simple, and quick. As you would expect, all of the common functions are here, including: upload, download, delete, rename, chmod, and directory control. Plus, there are some nice zip/unzip features for the files that you manage. File size limits are imposed, but you can get rid of them by signing up for the paid service. It’s free for the first month, and costs only US$1.00 for each year. At the time of this review, the links to their privacy policy and a couple of other pages on their main site were unavailable, which is kind of unsettling. However, if you’re a frequent flyer of FTP, you’ll probably want to give this site a look. [Brandon Watts]

Our resident "Bob" (pictured here through the lens of photographer Jason DeFillippo) is in love with a woman who talks to animals. He has a fondness for belting out songs about seafaring and whiskey (arguably inappropriate in most social situations). He's arm-wrestled robots and won. He was born in a lighthouse on the storm-tossed shores of an island that has since been washed away and forgotten, so he's technically a citizen of nowhere. He's never killed in anger. He once underwent therapy for having an alien in his face, but he assures us that he's now feeling "much better." Fogarty also claims that he was once marooned along a tiny archipelago and survived for months using only his wits and a machete, but we find that a little hard to believe.
