Report: Stealthy Health

Ever had a shot of wheat grass? It’s absolutely disgusting; NyQuil is like Kool Aid compared to that stuff. According to one juice supplier’s site, this extraction: “increases hemoglobin production; rebuilds the blood stream; neutralizes toxins, carcinogens in the body; reduces high blood pressure; improves blood sugar disorders; helps purify the liver; etc.” What word is mentioned most? Blood. I’m getting it tested again tomorrow, though it’s been six months since my last voluntary withdrawal. My fear of needles keeps me from doing it more than once a decade, but I have to make a special exception this time. I’ve been changing certain habits in the past week, almost like I’m cramming for an exam. I don’t expect to see my recent health kick reflective in the results of Tuesday’s tap, but at least I know I’m stepping in the right direction. Still, that hasn’t stopped me from being vigilant about taking extra steps and precautions lately. I’m up to about thirty easy minutes on the Gazelle, and my caloric intake has been dramatically cut (largely due to killing the coffee consumption). I’ve only been at it for seven days, but my mind seems to be clearer - and my breathing feels a lot less restricted. Yes, I drank THAT much of it.

I think I’m having one of those mid-year resolutions? Better to do it now than wait until everyone else starts. I’ve got a jump on the 2005 competition! Seriously, these minor body tweaks were a long time coming - and I’m happy to have made them. They’re not that hard to “do,” actually. I had to eliminate every possible excuse in order to move forward. The wrong home machine can be: (a) expensive; and (b) difficult to use. Running and jogging bore me to tears, and when you don’t have easy access to a proper surface, you could be doing your legs more harm than good. I don’t like public gyms, and I don’t wanna pay for a membership that I’m not likely to use if it becomes a PITA. Gosh, no wonder I didn’t do anything for so long; instead of deciding to seek a solution, I continued to assume there was no possible answer. Well, after listening to a few folks, and trying one for myself, I settled on something that would suit my profile. Nothing ventured, nothing gained - or lost, in this case. You might look at me and think there’s no possible way I could or should shed any weight. However, any amount of regular aerobic activity is beneficial beyond visible mass. If I put it off for another year, I’d be that much more behind. Geeks like to live long (and prosper), too.

Chris Pirillo
