Remember When You Still Had Your Whole LIfe Ahead of You?

When life was so much easier? And you had all these possibilities and nothing was spoiled by bad credit. or having kids too early, or the wrong job? Man, didn’t it seem like we had our whole lives ahead of us?

Well guess what?

We *still* have our whole lives ahead of us! The possibilities of life don’t lie in what we’ve done, but what we have yet to do. If you feel you haven’t done anything with your life yet, you still can. Toni Morrison won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Born in 1931, she wrote her first novel in 1970. That means she was 37 before she started to do what would bring her such critical praise and literary success.

Julia Child didn’t learn to cook until she was in her late thirties - which was Really late blooming in her days when women were expected to be able to cook as a matter of course.

Charles Darwin didn’t publish his first book on natural selection until he was 50 and now everyone who goes to grade-school science class knows of him.

Colonel Sanders didn’t franchise KFC until his 60s.

Taikichiro Mori was considered the richest man in the world in the early 90s, and hadn’t made his first business move until he past 50.

Al Jarreau released his first album at 38 - considered way past prime in the often unforgiving music business.

Most US presidents were elected to office after they reached age 50. JFK, the youngest was 43. Ronald Reagan was in his 60s- normally they’d have been fitting him for a rocking chair or a headstone.

20 years ago, Oprah was in her thirties. What if she had stopped then, and given up hope?

The point, of course, is to let go of whatever in life is telling you that your glory days are over, or that you can’t accomplish anything, and most of all, that it’s too late for you.

The myth of lateness of day and longness of tooth, as inversely proportional to success in life is a widespread falsehood. Conquer it with the example of your life … in 20 years. :)

What can discourage many people is that lately all you hear about are the young people who accomplish something at a young age. All these dot com creators keep their names in the media. You never hear about the older crowd that does something great. This only feeds the notion that it’s too late if you haven’t done anything after your 20’s.

I know, that kills me… so and so is a billionaire at 31 from the sale of whydidntithinkofthatcrap.com — it boils my soul. :) This is really a note to self, if you want the truth!
