4 Scenarios That Tempt Me to Throw In the Towel

  • No Related Post

Sometimes, I get to the bottom of a full glass of night and I want to smash it into a thousand pieces, tossing it over my right shoulder, never to even look back. Most work in the world is thankless, if you’re lucky, but working on the web is sometimes such an uphill climb that you forget what level ground feels like.

These are the top four reasons that I often want to hang up my spurs and go have babies with the guy I should have married ten years ago (Another story- and I wouldn’t have been happy if I did it then, so it’s not a regret. More like a pipe dream.)

  1. I’m so tired of seeing people who cheat their way to the top getting rich.
  2. I’m sick of my best laid plans being derailed by some often-innocent mistake on someone else’s part.
  3. I really think a year off recovering would heal me, but damn if I ever actually get enough money saved up, what with constant medical bills and no insurance.
  4. I thought I was done with 18 hour work days. I’m too old for this crap, honestly.

And yet. The one reason I bitch, moan, whine, and then fight another day is that I’m a hopeless optimist. I got really close to the finish line last September, and had my dream stolen from me.

I’ll be damned if that’s how this story ends. Damned indeed.

I am just getting started in this business, so I am afraid there is very little I can say regarding your feelings. I can say however that in my opinion a person should only do what they love doing, or it just isn’t worth it. When the majority of your days are spent working, it seems rather critical that you enjoy yourself while doing it. As far as your being too old…I don’t agree. It really is a matter of how old you are feeling, not your actual age that matters. Write me at shadowmythproductions@gmail.com, and I will give you some helpful advice to aid you with your health issues.

You’re fabulous Shadowmyth, and I thank you for your comment, sincerely. Venting ususally gets those feelings out. Success comes with persistence, if you’re willing and able to stick it out and have singular focus.

On good days I realize that I’m not too old - yesterday was a particularly bad day. I’d worked the holiday consciousl and found out at the last minute that all my work was for shit because another member of the team I was working with, unwittingly worked against what I did. Then I got another message about the scam I wrote my Trustbait series about on my other site….

Normally I love what I do, but like any other job, there’s one area I have trouble with - for me it’s double work and seeing people get cheated. I usually get them after they’ve been screwed and sometimes it really upsets me when I find out how badly they were grifted.

For my health issues, I’m recovering, slowly but surely. I’ve been some level of sick on and off since 1992, so it’s nothing new… but sometimes I get SO frustrated.

But hey, that too, shall pass. I’ll email you in a few.
